FLI CAP Technology delivered a complete turnkey effluent treatment solution for Greggs PLC’s Balliol Park production facility in Newcastle Upon Tyne, supporting a major site expansion and increased manufacturing capacity.

Following the commissioning of a fourth production line, increasing site output by 35%, Greggs required an upgraded effluent treatment plant capable of managing increased wastewater volumes while maintaining compliance with Northumbrian Water PLC discharge consent conditions.

Having successfully delivered multiple treatment projects for Greggs across its UK production sites, FLI CAP Technology was appointed to design and install a new treatment system specifically tailored to the Balliol facility.

The new plant incorporates:

• Above-ground raw effluent transfer pumps
• Mechanical solids screening
• Bunded balance tank with equalisation capacity
• Automated chemical dosing
• Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) clarification
• PLC-based automation with colour touchscreen HMI
• Final effluent monitoring and discharge station

Prior to project commencement, FLI CAP Technology carried out a full assessment of the existing treatment plant, reviewing system condition, treatment capacity and compliance performance. The study confirmed that a complete replacement was required to support future production demands.

Due to limited available site space, FLI CAP Technology developed a phased construction and installation programme, allowing the new plant to be installed while maintaining continuous factory operations.
