FLI CAP Technology successfully delivered a complete turnkey effluent treatment system for Freshpak, one of Britain’s leading chilled food manufacturers, producing a wide range of sandwich fillings, dips, vegetable and fish pâtés, mayonnaise and egg products.

The project was developed to transfer and treat raw effluent from two separate production areas through a new Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) clarification system, improving treatment performance while ensuring continued compliance with Yorkshire Water discharge consent conditions.

Project Scope

FLI CAP Technology delivered the full turnkey project, including:

• Process and civil design
• Equipment supply
• Mechanical and electrical installation
• Commissioning

The treatment plant incorporates two new 1mm screening systems to remove solids from each incoming effluent stream before transferring the screened effluent into a 380m³ balance tank. From there, the wastewater is treated through a 40m³/hour DAF clarification system complete with automatic chemical dosing.

The installation also included:

• 60m³ sludge storage vessel
• Automated PLC control system with touchscreen HMI
• Full process monitoring and operator control

Clarified effluent is returned to the existing sewer outfall while sludge generated during treatment is safely stored for subsequent handling and disposal.

Maintaining Compliance Throughout Construction

To minimise disruption to production and maintain compliance throughout the upgrade, the project was delivered using a carefully planned phased installation programme.

FLI CAP Technology managed all aspects of the project, ensuring the new treatment system was delivered safely, on programme and within budget while fully achieving the agreed performance targets.

The completed installation provides Freshpak with a reliable, fully automated primary treatment solution capable of supporting ongoing production while maintaining environmental compliance.
