FLI CAP Technology delivered a turnkey effluent treatment upgrade for Greencore’s chilled and frozen food manufacturing facility in Spalding, Lincolnshire.

The project involved replacing a 25-year-old effluent treatment system that lacked sufficient storage, equalisation and treatment capacity. High instantaneous flows, ageing equipment and limited automation had created increased operational costs and potential compliance risks.

FLI CAP Technology designed and installed a new treatment system incorporating inlet screening, equalisation, chemical dosing and dissolved air flotation (DAF) clarification. The plant was engineered to manage high-strength effluent streams while ensuring compliance with Environment Agency CIRIA C736 guidance.

Key elements of the project included:

• 1 mm internally-fed rotary drum screening system
  
  
• Raw effluent pumping capable of transferring up to 60 m³/hr
  
  
• Aerated balance tank and divert storage
  
  
• Automated pH correction and chemical dosing via serpentine flocculation
  
  
• DAF clarification treating up to 40 m³/hr
  
  
• Fully bunded ETP area with reinforced concrete foundations and tank containment
  
  

Due to challenging ground conditions, FLI CAP undertook detailed geotechnical investigations and delivered a bespoke civil engineering design featuring extended piled foundations to ensure structural integrity.

FLI CAP Technology acted as Principal Contractor, delivering the full project scope including design, civil engineering works, equipment supply, mechanical and electrical installation, and commissioning.

The new treatment plant was delivered safely, on schedule and on budget, achieving all agreed performance targets and providing Greencore with a modern, reliable effluent treatment solution.
